Dental crowns are caps for the teeth which are cemented or bonded onto a natural tooth to add strength and to protect it from further damage.
Crowns serve a number of dental functions and are widely used by dental professionals. Uses include:
- Strengthening a tooth that has been damaged by decay
- Strengthening a tooth that has broken
- Replacing an old silver amalgam filling
- Protecting a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment
- Supporting a traditional dental bridge
At Fairford Leys Smile Centre, we create beautiful bespoke crowns from porcelain or ceramic that blend in with your natural teeth. They are completely discrete and made exactly to your required size and specification. Dental crowns can also be made from precious metals, however these days, we have found that patients prefer tooth-coloured options.
If you require a crown, we will take impressions of your natural teeth so that our technicians can build you the right sized replacement. While we wait for this to be completed, we will provide a temporary restoration so that you can carry on smiling and interacting as usual. Once its ready, we’ll invite you in for the permanent crown to be fitted.
